Greetings to all Longwood University GI Bill recipients! We understand that there has been an unusual lag time this semester for receiving GI Bill funds from the VA, and this is due, in part, to the sheer number of new applicants for benefits (esp. with regard to the transferal of benefits to spouses and children of Veterans under CH. 33).
Members of Longwood's Registrar's Office assure us that our names have all been entered into the system for certification and verification, but please keep in mind that the VA currently has a backlog of over 75,000 requests.
Additionally, please remember that housing allowances are always paid in arrears, so if you are verified this month (September), then your first BHA might not be issued until October. Our understanding is that if you are due a payment for August, you should receive that payment (along with your regular September payment) as soon as your status has been verrified.
If you find that this is not the case, please contact the Registrar's Office (or the VA . . . if you have a contact who will answer the phone 
to find out what step should be taken next.

Post-9/11 GI Bill

Some of you might see some money from us in your bank accounts today. Individuals eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill and with a certified enrollment period during August were to receive their first housing allowance payment starting September 1st, 2009 (remember the housing allowance is paid in arrears). It's recently come to our attention that some housing allowance payments have been processed early and that some of you might be receiving them in your bank account or by mail starting today.
If this happens to you please be aware that this is your allowance payment for the month of August, and that your next housing allowance payment will not take place till on or after October 1, 2009.
